How to Remove Red Wine Stains

Red wine stains are one of the most searched stain problems in the world — and for good reason. That deep crimson colour contains tannins and pigments that bond quickly to fabric fibres. The key is speed.

Act immediately

Blot (never rub) the stain with a clean cloth to absorb as much wine as possible before it sets.

For clothing and fabric

Mix one tablespoon of dishwashing liquid with one tablespoon of white vinegar and two cups of cold water. Apply to the stain, blot repeatedly, then rinse with cold water.

For carpet

Pour a small amount of cold sparkling water directly onto the stain — the carbonation helps lift the wine from the fibres.

What NOT to do

Never use hot water — it sets the stain permanently. Never rub — it spreads the stain and damages fabric fibres.
